Once you've created a data source, you need to give your app access to the data. This is done by clicking on the "Assign to App" button, highlighted below.

Clicking on this button leads you to a page where you can select the app that can use the data source.

Note that removing a data source from an app and then restoring it cannot fully restore the settings. You should be very deliberate about removing data sources you are using in an app as reinstating them to that app can involve significant effort. Because of this, a warning message is shown any time you attempt to uncheck a data-source-to-app assignment.
